The project consists of a single family primary residence of an estimated 2,600 SF conditioned space with a detached car port for parking in the rear. The owners are interested in a contemporary residence with advanced water and energy saving features as well as environmentally conscious materials and minimum site disturbance. The building is intended to sit lightly on the site nestling among the existing trees and preserving as many trees as possible.
Given the character of the development we are proposing clean geometric forms in traditional proportion for the massing of the house. These forms are pared down and simplified to their elemental nature. The house is broken down into three essential elements - the master wing, the main body, containing the great room and bedrooms above and the kitchen/dining which is connected to the main house via a screen porch. Rotation of the kitchen piece may be introduced to further differentiate this as a unique focal point of the house. After a study of the neighborhood master plan we propose to possibly turn the face of the structure toward the May River beyond which will possibly be visible from the dining room located above the kitchen.
