Building Awareness for Hunger

Wissmach Architects had the distinct honor of being a part of Savannah's first "Canstruction" project, a community service effort which involves making sculptures out of canned goods in order to aid in the cause to fight hunger. We teamed up with students at Spencer Elementary, led by art teacher Denise Snyder, and built a Savannah tugboat which is proudly on display at Telfair's Jepson Center for the Arts. Spencer students collected food and Publix + Kroger supermarkets each donated $100 worth of cans in order to create the vessel. The tugboat will be on display November 6-17 on the second floor of the Jepson Center. Students will dismantle the sculpture on Tuesday, November 18 and then proceed to America's Second Harvest Food Bank to stock the shelves.
